Has it really been a week since I last posted? Well, since then, Canoe Families have started their journey here to the Makah Tribe. I have received information that nine canoes landed in Samish yesterday, and 8 were in Nisqually yesterday. I haven't heard anything about the Vancouver Island Tribe Routes...(if anyone has info, please let me know!)
Tomorrow, canoes are scheduled to land in Ditidaht, Nanaimo,Penn Cove and Muckleshoot! The North Sound and South Sound Canoes will be meeting together in Suquamish on the 11th & 12th, and travel together from there. Please text/call me with updates of the canoes on the water! I can be reached at 360.640.0057.
It's very important to stress how vital it is to the community of Neah Bay that everyone conserves as much water as possible during your stay with us. We will have water coolers and water trucks available, so please use them as often as you can!
Please keep yourself and your canoe families safe along the Journey. We here at Neah Bay are anxiously awaiting your arrival!!

Hi Everyone! Whew-17 days left until the landing! Are you excited yet?! Yesterday, our Makah Tribal Council and the Tribal Journeys 2010 Executive Committee had the pleasure of meeting with the Swinomish Chairman Brian Cladoosby, and the Tribal Journeys 2011 Coordinator, Aurelia AKA Dussy Washington, and her assistant Melissa Edwards-Miller. Of course, we didn't have nearly enough time together. Plans for a fall meeting are in the works.Much of the recent requests we have received have to do with the specific areas where canoe landings along the Journey will take place. Below is a list and information from eight tribes who have filled out the Stop-Over Host Forms. Unfortunately, we haven't received information for every stop along the way. If you don't see your tribe or area, it's because we haven't received your information yet-but there's still time to turn one in!

Well, we are about 19 days away from the landing. It's beginning to pick up speed here in Neah Bay, and you can feel the excitement growing each day! Today our beach that will be used for the final landing was worked on. I want to take some time to give some answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
• In regards to Elder Accommodations, we regret to inform you that we aren’t able to guarantee accommodations for them. We will do our best to have accommodations set up with host families for the elders who are unable to camp, but we encourage all canoe families to make arrangements for hotels whenever possible. At this time, everything in Neah Bay and Clallam Bay is booked. Therefore, the closest city with available hotel rooms is Forks, which is about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes south of Neah Bay by car.
• Support Boats-unless you are planning on camping on your boat during Tribal Journeys, we will be asking all Support Boats to anchor out on the west side of our Bay. A water taxi will be provided. Please use channel 16 or 68 to request this once you arrive in Neah Bay and are ready to exit your Support Boat.
• For our cousins in Canada, I have been informed that to get into the United States, you will need two forms of ID: 1) a government issued proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and 2) a government issued photo ID such as a drivers license or Status card. The Customs & Border Patrol website is www.cbp.gov
• Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the nautical maps in this year’s Tribal Journeys 2010 Guidebook. We will be mailing out the completed guidebook this week, and it will also be available in electronic format on our website. I also plan to email it on the listserv once it’s completed.
Well, that's it for today. Please stay tuned for more information!

Welcome Canoe Families, visiting Tribes and guests! This is the Makah Paddle Blog, known from here on out as the MPB. I hope that various people will be providing information for this, but you will mainly see updates from me.I will be using the MPB as a way to get (hopefully) daily updates to you as Canoe Families begin their Journey for 2010. I would like to be able to provide updates on who is where, how many have arrived, when they plan on leaving and arriving at their next stop. Please feel free to send me updates along the Journey via email: mtcgrant@centurytel.net; or phone/text message at 360.640.0057.
I also intend to use this as a tool to update everyone on the plans & preparations the Makah Tribe are making for this exciting event!
Please stay tuned for further updates...
Sincerely yours,
Crystal Denney
